A Camera Calibration Method using Concentric Circles for Vision Applications

چکیده
In this paper, we present a new method for camera calibration using concentric circles. We demonstrate that camera calibration is possible using two views of a concentric circle with known size. A new method to determine the position of the projected center of the circle is introduced. Based on the accurate estimation of the projected circle center of two sets of 3-D concentric circles, the proposed calibration method estimates the intrinsic camera parameters using two sets of 3-D concentric circles obtained from the same viewpoint. We validate the performance of the method using both synthetic and real images. Our method shows a comparable performance with respect to similar calibration methods using a plane. The use of concentric circles, however, greatly simplifies the calibration problem. We also demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed calibration method through the recovery of 3-D structure of an object, placed on a turntable, using a sequence of images taken from the static cameras.

We present some novel concepts for the scene geometry recovery by a multi-camera system. A new global appearance measure is introduced for a novel generalized scene recovery methodology, called “the appearance-cloning.” For the efficient calibration of the multi-camera system, we investigate the projective properties of the concentric circle pattern. Specifically, two algebraic constraints from...

This paper describes a new camera calibration method based on ellipses properties. We demonstrate that the calibration is possible using one view of two concentric circles of known radii. Based on the estimation of the projected circle centers and on the ellipses properties as the perspective projection of circles, our algorithm estimates both the focal length and the pose and orientation of th...

A robot-based three-dimensional (3D) measurement system is presented. In the presented system, a structured light vision sensor is mounted on the arm of an industrial robot. Measurement accuracy is one of the most important aspects of any 3D measurement system. To improve the measuring accuracy of the structured light vision sensor, a novel sensor calibration approach is proposed to improve the...
متن کاملA novel approach to planar camera calibration
Camera calibration is an important step in 3D reconstruction of scenes. Many natural and man made objects are circular and form good candidates as calibration objects. We present a linear calibration algorithm to estimate the intrinsic camera parameters using at least three images of concentric circles of unknown radii. Novel methods to determine the projected center of concentric circles of un...
متن کاملCamera Calibration Using Two Concentric Circles
We present a simple calibration method for computing the extrinsic parameters (pose) and intrinsic parameters (focal length and principal point) of a camera by imaging a pattern of known geometry. Usually, the patterns used in calibration algorithms are complex to build (three orthogonal planes) or need a lot of features (checkerboard-like pattern). We propose using just two concentric circles ...
